Provided Specialist Bat Ecologist (SBE) project oversight for acoustic survey and roost watch surveys for pre-felling and de-risking operations. Provided on-the-ground support to arborists and tree fellers during felling operations. Gave advice and guidance around technology and techniques for minimising impact on long-tailed bats (pekapeka).

• Waste Management New Zealand Landfill

Auckland, 2025–Ongoing

As the Project Delivery Lead, we provide oversight for the long-term radio-tracking program. Working closely with Waste Management NZ staff, contractors, and the Project Ecologist (HabitatNZ) to oversee delivery of the long-tailed bat population monitoring study, as part of the proposed consent requirements for the project.

• Kaihiku Windfarm

Otago, 2023–Ongoing

As the on-the-ground support and fieldwork delivery expert, we are assisting Davidson-Watts Ecology with the landscape-scale acoustic study and radio-tracking survey for long-tailed bats for the Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) for the project fast track consenting process.
We are also assisting with development and implementation of mitigation and offsetting measures for management of impacts on bats around the windfarm.

• Finding Franklin Bats

Auckland, 2023–Ongoing

As the Project Level 3 Bat Trainer, we are providing ongoing advice, oversight, and training for EcoQuest staff, iwi and community volunteers for this long-term community radio-tracking project.
This project is in conjunction with Auckland Council and EcoQuest.

We also provided capture and identification support for Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) conference attendees.

Conservation & Training

• Eglinton Valley Long-Term Monitoring Programme

Southland, 2015–2020
Lead Field Technician

As the Project Lead Field Technician we oversaw the delivery of the long-term population monitoring program, developed new survey methods, and tested new conservation techniques and technologies for a range of threatened species. We also provided extensive training for volunteers and consultants in bat ecology and radio-tracking methods.

• Geraldine Training

Accredited Trainer

Working closely with DOC Geraldine, we have created a public-private partnership program for long-term population monitoring for the Geraldine bat population. Through this program, we provide bat radio-tracking and ecology training for DOC staff and consultants which goes towards funding long term population monitoring and research for the local bat populations in Geraldine. Accredited Trainer
Training Developer

Working closely with the Department of Conservation and stakeholders we have developed and refined training programs for ecologists looking to expand their bat skills and knowledge. We are currently the only Accredited Trainer offering focused training in High Risk activities under DOC’s Bat Handler Competency Authorisation scheme but are working closely with The Ecology Studio to develop training opportunities.
We are also working closely with DOC to develop methods for assessment of Accredited Trainers and previous bat experience for accreditation.
